Fire and Rescue Services Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu:
It is entrusted with the task of fire fighting and rescue operations in times of emergency. “We Serve to Save” is the lofty objective of the department and every one of the personnel in the department has the onerous task of saving the people in distress. It is the endeavor of the department to ensure that the delivery of services to the public reaches with least delay.
Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department headed by a Director in the rank of Addl Director General of Police has a strength of 6801 personnel and operates through 302 Fire and Rescue Services Stations including 2 Rescue Stations located in all the 33 districts in Tamil Nadu. The main task of the fire fighters is to save and protect life and properties of the people in any calamity either natural or man-made. It needs physical strength and sensitivity.
We alone cannot serve people if people don't take preventive measures. We appeal to the industrialists, owners and occupants of multi-storied buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, cracker manufactures etc., to follow the fire safety norms to ensure safer society.

Accessing Fire Service (Free Service):
The Fire Service can be contacted on telephone regarding fire accidents and for rescue of people / animals caught in distress situation. A mere phone call giving proper address and details of the emergency will do.
Fire Control Room No. : 101 (Select Cities)
Ambulance Service No. : 102 (Only in Chennai City)
All other Fire Stations have direct telephone facilities.
Fire Prevention:
The prime concern of the Fire Service is to promote safe fire practices and to prevent the occurrence of fire accidents. The Department meets various people in groups and conducts demonstrations, lectures, etc. Those desirous of calling for this facility may approach the following officers to arrange the session for their benefit :
The Divisional Fire Officer in the District Head Quarters (or)
The Director of Fire and Rescue Services in Chennai
